This week, I took a course, Personal Branding for Cyber Careers. The award-winning podcaster Dr. Gerald Auger is the developer of the course, and he’s also a fellow educator, a good friend, and the host of the informative daily show on YouTube called the Simply Cyber Daily Threat Brief. Auger gave me a sneak peek a few months ago, and I checked it out, but he led a cohort that I attended live on his Discord channel this week. Auger challenged the twelve of us attending to “up our game” by promoting our passions in cybersecurity and creating content for our own YouTube channels.
Taking the Personal Branding for Cyber Careers course is a game-changer for me. While I already had my cybersecurity YouTube channel, I learned how to set up and personalize the channel further, what it takes to create engaging content, and develop a consistent brand that reflects me and my skillset in cybersecurity. From understanding the hardware and software essentials of lighting and video editing when you’re on a tight or relaxed budget to improving video editing and optimizing content for discovery, every step was practical and actionable. Auger also provided insights into monetization strategies like sponsorships and memberships, and effective ways to promote one’s channel to grow an audience. This course didn’t just teach us the technical aspects of “YouTubing” and the tools and confidence to build a robust platform that brands James McQuiggan as a cybersecurity expert and teller of Dad Jokes!
One of the elements was building an engaging trailer below for you to check out. I invite you to visit my YouTube channel and subscribe!
